Karim Rashid
Born in Cairo and raised in Canada in an Anglo-Egyptian family, today Karim works in New York. Famous for his 'democratic design' and for bringing design to the attention of the mass audience, he designed for an impressive list of clients. To date, he boasts almost 2000 objects put into production, successfully entering the world of architecture and interior design.


Karim was awarded an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts by the Corcoran College of Art & Design in D.C., as well as a number of other awards, including: the A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction at the Carleton University (where he graduated) in 2004, the ID Magazine Annual Design Review Best of category in 2002, and the award for the best shop in the USA in 2003.

His work is in 14 permanent collections of museums worldwide, including the MoMA and SFMOMA, and in various galleries. Karim was an associate Professor of Industrial Design for ten years and still holds lectures at universities around the world.
